Climate Risk Briefing for CROs and Risk Leaders
In May 2023 we hosted an extremely popular, and thought-provoking, event on climate risk, which was led by our guest speaker Nick Spencer. We have had a number of requests for a follow-up session and are delighted to invite you to attend.
The focus of the next event will be: ‘A Climate Risk Briefing for CROs & risk leaders.’ As subject matter experts when it comes to leadership in governance, risk management and controls, the impact of the changing world on the functions in which we specialise is front of mind at all times here at Halsey Keetch.
Date: Wednesday, 20th March, 8.15 – 9.45am
Venue: The Don private dining rooms, St Swithin’s Lane, London, EC4N 8AD
Format: Presentation by Nick Spencer, alongside coffee and breakfast around the table, and then discussion of the key themes and content amongst our guests.
Managing Climate & Sustainability Risk with Nick Spencer, sustainability expert & senior consultant at Milliman
There is a minor revolution going on in climate scenario and climate risk governance. These developments are almost certainly behind the PRA’s “Dear CEO”’s comment that “further progress is required by all firms, particularly on [climate] scenario analysis and risk management”.
Following last year’s engaging breakfast, we are pleased to welcome Nick Spencer back to give an update on the recent developments in climate risk management. Increasingly there is recognition that if we transitioning to a low carbon economy then legacy calibrated risk distributions are insufficient to understand the volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguities that we will all face.
The breakfast will start with a stocktake on where we are, outline recent developments and then overview how causal frameworks can overcome the weaknesses in more traditional risk management approaches:
- Updating planet reality – aligning climate scenarios with climate science
- The 2024 risk pivot: from correlation to causality
- The Sustainability Risk Agenda: five for everyone and a further five for the leaders
Nick is a past chair of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries Sustainability Board, an award-winning thought leader on sustainable investing and one of the leading voices in the UK’s investment consulting industry. He looks to drive change today by developing the capabilities to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
